Landscape Photography

Landscape photography can be defined as a photograph of the land. These photos generally do not include people, animals or any man made structures. Mountains, wilderness and forests are good examples of landscape photography.

Landscape photographers use the natural scenery to create a three dimensional look. Composition, detail and light are used to create the frame for your picture. This style is known as representational landscape photography.

The second style of landscape photography is known as impressionistic. The photographer will use various techniques to give the impression of the landscape. The end result is similar to an impressionistic painting.

The third and last style of landscape photography is abstract. In this style, design is the most important factor. The photographer may do an extreme close-up, a silhouette or other various techniques to capture natural elements.

No matter what style of landscape photography you choose there are some simple tricks to make it easier. The first and most important tip is to always use a tripod. No human can hold a camera as still as a tripod and that can make a huge difference in they final look of your photograph. Another tip is to always create an interest point to get the viewer's attention. Scale is very important, as well as lighting and time of day. A few minutes can make a big difference in sunlight during certain times of the day. You will also need to pay attention to cloud cover, which can create unwanted shadows. Like any form of art, it takes time and practice to create the perfect picture.
