Kids are full of energy and are often hyperactive. One of the best ways to photograph them is to catch them in action. Moments such as playing with their toys, with their pet or even with friends can be Kodak moments. The best shots are definitely when you catch them unaware of being photographed. When photographing kids you cannot have many guidelines, because you never know what they may do next. Guidelines can bring about boredom for them.
There are stages of photographing your little one. The very young are guaranteed to make great shots. Little ones are cute and cuddly anyway, and make excellent subjects for pictures. They are unselfconscious and will possibly smile at the drop of a hat. The key is to keep the camera ready with film/flash for all stages, from newborn to 24 months. Be ready to take whatever could happen. The next stages will be the discovery moments; you don't want to miss "potty time." Plan all shots according to the locations and the situations. By all means, make sure that your child feels safe.
Here are some tips that could assist in taking the best shots of your child for a lifetime. Try to pre-plan the location, invest into a good camera, think of special times such as, birthday parties, trip to the zoo, at the beach, playing with friends, visiting relatives at holidays, first school day, or first lost tooth. Always try to make picture taking fun; pick out special backgrounds (walls, trees, hedges, signs or flowers). Keep your camera low and at eye level with your child, use different angles, and move in close to capture facial expressions. Kids are adorable, and it is a shear delight to catch all of the special moments in their lives. They will adore looking at their baby photo albums years down the road.
