Close Up Photography

Close ups are wonderful way to get creative with photography, and once you have started taking them, you are sure to want to continue. When you take a picture from a distance, you can fit more objects into the picture, but you do not get a clear view or a clear, distinct image of the items. You may be able to make out what the objects are, but you certainly can't see all of the beautiful details of the object as you could in a close up shot.

The advantage of taking pictures close up is that you can make out all of the crevices and the wrinkles that make up a person's image. If you miss those wrinkles, you miss their personality, along with the glitter in the eyes.

A close up can be so much more than a regular distance shot because it enhances the entire object or image. If you took a close up of a butterfly, you would see all of its beautiful colors, its delicate antennae, and the tracery of veins in its wings. If you took the photo from a distance, you might only be able to make out the outline or the image of it. In other words, you would lose a lot of the beauty of the butterfly if it were not taken close up. The same holds true with every picture that is taken. That is why in so many photographs of large families taken back in the early 1900s, it is hard to identify some of the members. The faces are small because the photo was taken at a distance to fit the entire clan in.
